Are you a parent or caregiver concerned about the education rights, accommodations and support in your community?
Consider joining your local school board Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
Why would you consider joining SEAC?
- Joining SEAC allows you to represent members of your community who are facing struggles in gaining access to education in your school board. By joining SEAC as an IAO representative (or alternate) you would have a voting seat at the table to vote on key education issues in your school board that your community faces.
What’s the time commitment in joining SEAC?
- The commitment can be as little as one SEAC meeting a month
- You may also commit to participating in subcommittees if your SEAC operates with subcommittees or task forces
What would make you an ideal candidate for joining your local school board’s SEAC?
- If you’re passionate about meaningful access to education, including the provision of proper supports and accommodations for students with disabilities at your school board, and you share IAO’s core values for inclusive education in the regular classroom for students with disabilities, you would be an ideal candidate for the role.
