Exceptional PupilA pupil whose behavioural, communicational, intellectual, physical or multiple exceptionalities are such that the student is considered to need placement in a special education program by an Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC)
ExceptionalitiesPhysical, mental, sensory, and emotional disabilities or differences, including gifted/talented abilities.
Identification, Placement, and Review CommitteeIPRCThe committee set up by the school board to identify a student as meeting the definition of having an “exceptionality”, as is defined under the Education Act. The Committee can place a student in a special education classroom or make recommendations about special education programs and services, but cannot require these be made available.

Passport Program

The Passport program, funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), helps adults with a developmental disability be involved in their communities and live as independently as possible by providing funding for community participation services and supports, activities of daily living and person-directed planning. The program also provides funding for caregiver respite services and supports for primary caregivers of an adult with a developmental disability.

Special Education Advisory Committee

SEAC

A committee within each of the 72 Ontario school boards composed of some school trustees and representatives from community advocacy groups that represent exceptional children. This committee advises the trustees and school board administration about special education programs and services.
