Summer Jobs for Social Change: Inclusion Action in Ontario

Inclusion Action in Ontario Education & Community (IAO) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the inclusion of students with disabilities in education and community. We believe that inclusive education is the foundation of an inclusive life.

We are hiring two students for summer jobs to do social media and web support. These jobs are work from home: 35 hrs/week for 8 weeks at $18/hour. You will work with our director Karen Hunt and others through the eight-week period, target start date of July 4. Please email Karen Hunt at treasurer@inclusionactionontario.ca to submit your application or ask about accomodations to participate in the hiring process.

This job is funded by the Government of Canada Summer Jobs program. You must be aged between 15 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible. This job is advertised on Job Bank in accordance with the requirements for Canada Summer Jobs 2022.

IAO is committed to an accessible hiring process for persons with disabilities. Please let us know if you require any accommodations.

Manage communications for special projects (such as Webinar series, panels, community projects).

●    Tools: be able to use Web based tools to create content and track work, or learn specific tools as needed. Examples include Slack (for team communication), Trello (for task management), Google Workspace (document storage), Salesforce (Member list access,  campaigns), Web site management (WordPress.org) or various social media tools.

●    Able to do independent learning and research after being given goals (typically will be in  one week chunks)

Interviewing

As part of the interview process we will want to see examples of work done that shows an interest and aptitude for creating content and working on projects. This could be on formal or informal projects, previous work or hobbies. Applicants should be able to describe how they approached the task.

Ontario’s highest court affirms right to participate in hearing for man with Down Syndrome

“Inclusion Action in Ontario (IAO) reports on a significant Court of Appeal decision affirming the rights of an adult with Down Syndrome to participate in decisions about his living arrangements. The Court emphasized the necessity for individuals with developmental disabilities to have their voices respected, challenging assumptions of incapacity. This aligns with IAO’s advocacy efforts, including the ‘My Home, My Way’ series, promoting independent living for those with complex needs. The decision marks a crucial step forward in the fight for autonomy and dignity for adults with developmental disabilities.”
