2024 IAO Board Member Call for Nominations

We at Inclusion Action in Ontario are looking for new active community members, passionate about their advocacy and creative in their approach, to join our Board of Directors.

IAO is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the inclusion of students with disabilities in education and the community. We believe that inclusive education is the foundation of an inclusive life. IAO has vacancies on its 9-person Board of Directors. We are also looking to grow Directors into leadership roles over the next year.

The Board meets once a month by Zoom, and the time commitment is 5+ hours a month. Board members and other volunteers also assist with other projects, such as fundraising or participating in events and panels, writing content for the website, running a local chapter and/or participating as an IAO representative for your board’s special education advisory committee. If you are interested in learning more about the position, read more here .

To apply, please email Paula Boutis at president@inclusionactionontario.ca  and include a bio or resume with a brief cover letter or email about why you’d like to join our team. If you have any questions, concerns or accommodation requirements, please let us know how we can help.l

Ontario’s highest court affirms right to participate in hearing for man with Down Syndrome

“Inclusion Action in Ontario (IAO) reports on a significant Court of Appeal decision affirming the rights of an adult with Down Syndrome to participate in decisions about his living arrangements. The Court emphasized the necessity for individuals with developmental disabilities to have their voices respected, challenging assumptions of incapacity. This aligns with IAO’s advocacy efforts, including the ‘My Home, My Way’ series, promoting independent living for those with complex needs. The decision marks a crucial step forward in the fight for autonomy and dignity for adults with developmental disabilities.”
