Inclusive Education: How do TDSB and UCDSB measure up?

Our two Fanshawe Childhood Early Leadership Students have been reviewing the Special Education Plans of the Toronto District School Board and the Upper Canada District School Board. They’ve been observing Special Education Advisory Committee meetings and working with two IAO volunteers serving on those SEACs. Our students will compare and contrast the two boards, their SEACs and whether families are benefiting from SEACs.

On November 28, 2023, 7 p.m., by Zoom, join our students to hear about their observations and what they learned. If you have students enrolled in Ontario school boards or you are a volunteer on a Special Education Advisory Committee, this will be of interest to you!

You can register for this event here.

Ontario’s highest court affirms right to participate in hearing for man with Down Syndrome

“Inclusion Action in Ontario (IAO) reports on a significant Court of Appeal decision affirming the rights of an adult with Down Syndrome to participate in decisions about his living arrangements. The Court emphasized the necessity for individuals with developmental disabilities to have their voices respected, challenging assumptions of incapacity. This aligns with IAO’s advocacy efforts, including the ‘My Home, My Way’ series, promoting independent living for those with complex needs. The decision marks a crucial step forward in the fight for autonomy and dignity for adults with developmental disabilities.”
