2022 Canada Summer Jobs NEW HIRES

For the second year in a row,  Inclusion Action in Ontario has hired two full-time employees. Earlier this year, we had a chance to apply for a Canada Summer Jobs Grant. This program is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to help young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to transition into the labour market successfully. We received a Canada Summer Jobs Grant, which covered about 80% of the costs and fundraised the remaining amount. We hired two reallly great candidates who have been hard at work since July 4, working on social media and our website.

Here a little bit about about Eknoor Brar and Zahra Murji:

Hi, my name is Zahra Murji, and my pronoun is she/her. I am a second year student at Toronto Metropolitan University (Ryerson) pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. In the future I aspire to become a Nurse Practitioner and work in paediatrics allowing me to directly impact people’s lives and communities.

A word I believe describes me is “resourceful” I am great at coming up with solutions to problems and limits. A few of hobbies and interest  include skateboarding, performing mini DIYs (Do It Yourself Projects).

At the IAO, I have spent the summer concentrating on content production and working to output more content and resources on the organization’s website making it more accessible for people. I’m ecstatic to join the Inclusion Action of Ontario team, share my knowledge and experience, and contribute to the betterment of the lives of children with disabilities.

My name is Eknoor Brar and I’m one of the new Canada Summer Jobs students. I’m so excited to be apart of this team and see what I can bring to this organization this summer!

I’m from Cambridge, Ontario and I have just recently completed Grade 10 and will be entering Grade 11 this fall. I enjoy a number of hobbies such as playing video games, making jewellery, learning to code, creating custom t-shirts and mugs and creating many different types of crafts with my Cricut. In the future, I hope to have a career in the tech industry and be involved with initiatives relating to women in STEM.

I’m glad that this summer I have the opportunity to work with this amazing organization. I’m looking forwards to work with the people who are making the IAO what it is today and see what changes I can bring. There’s many tasks that will be apart of this job that I enjoy such as researching, creating content and coming up with ideas!

Ontario’s highest court affirms right to participate in hearing for man with Down Syndrome

“Inclusion Action in Ontario (IAO) reports on a significant Court of Appeal decision affirming the rights of an adult with Down Syndrome to participate in decisions about his living arrangements. The Court emphasized the necessity for individuals with developmental disabilities to have their voices respected, challenging assumptions of incapacity. This aligns with IAO’s advocacy efforts, including the ‘My Home, My Way’ series, promoting independent living for those with complex needs. The decision marks a crucial step forward in the fight for autonomy and dignity for adults with developmental disabilities.”
